Why Your Photos are Contrived
Photocred: Eric Fischer
Using photo geotagging records, Eric Fischer has created a series of city maps with photographic hot spots.
In this post is one of Fischer’s Tourist vs. Locals map, with the tourist shots in red and the locals in blue. I’ve heard that the Golden Gate Bridge is the most photographed site in the United States and this Bay Area map is showing its 1,970 meters glowing a nearly neon red.
This is why on many occasions, the best set of photos is taken at unexpected locations/times. Personally though, I’d take photos both at red and blue spots just so that I can have best of both worlds scenic points—cliche postcard shots and some personal abstract ones. (Btw, did not know that “scenery” was a non-count noun. “Sceneries” refer to different background sets in theater.)
